Be. Expressed: “Be your true self. And let that self be expressed in the world.”
Be. Expressed | Art Therapy and Supportive Creative Services at Be. allow clients to express what they are thinking and feeling through artistic and experiential modalities to promote wellbeing, encourage discovery of true self, and enhance personal evolution.
“Be your true self. And let that self be expressed in the world.”
Art is not art if it is perfect! If clients are given a safe space and gentle guidance and the right tools, artistic expression can be cultivated and the artist hiding within can emerge. Everyone has a creative flow waiting to be expressed so let’s use this power to connect, express, and heal!
The world we are living in is geared towards technology and fast tracking the developmental process. This has led to a loss in cultivating and using the imagination. Being mindful and connecting with the body to express artistic energy outward into the world by creating something meaningful and authentic to who we are and how we feel enables us to heal and thrive. That’s why we BElieve it is time to let that inner child out and Be. Expressive!

Art Therapy Vs. Supportive Creative Services: A Comparison
Art Therapy is a clinical intervention grounded in psychological theory and therapeutic goals.
Supportive Creative Services are non-clinical and focus on enhancing quality of life through creativity and expression, without interpreting or diagnosing.
What is expressive art?
Expressive art is a form of artistic expression using a multitude of different artistic mediums and materials to promote discovery and growth. There are no rules or specific interpretation of the mediums or materials used. The clients themselves let it all flow out naturally to create their own expression and/or interpretations.
How does Be. Expressed use expressive arts?
Be. Expressed offers individual, partner, family, and/or group sessions to clients. During the session there will be an artistic expression prompt given and time to create one’s masterpiece during the session is provided. Individual sessions tend to be more personable and intimate, and the client plays an active role in selection of expressive art mediums used. Sessions average 45- 60 minutes and can be on a weekly to biweekly basis based on client needs, presentation, and goals. This approach allows the guide to provide ample time for the client to explore, invent, and discover your inner artist. To conclude each session discussion of the art created or performed will be processed to help the client integrate what was expressed and enhance the ability to relate the creation to the client’s health and healing journey. If sessions are provided on an ongoing basis continued practice or “homework” may be given as needed to enhance connection and provide maximum benefit.
How does expressive art help someone?
Art has been used since the beginning of time as a form of expression, even before language was developed. Art in some form is a part of every culture through music, dance, paintings, sculptures, plays, and more. Have you ever been going through something emotionally and felt an unexplainable connection with a song that lifted your spirits or made you feel like the words were made for you? Those moments are corrective, whether we consciously recognize this or not, and a reflection of the power of art!
When you create an original expression, it opens up your heart, that part of you where the authenticity of who you are is stored. This provides clients with an alternative outlet to release and integrate what may be stuck and unable to be put into words, and helps them find clarity. Expressive art has been shown to increase one’s confidence and self-esteem, improve communication skills, and build resilience – key components of wellbeing.
How long does someone need to be in expressive art to feel benefits?
This varies from person to person. There are many forms of expressive art, and someone may prefer one form over others, or want to try many different forms. This is an individually determined part of the process based on needs, presentation, and goals and will be assessed at intake. This form of support is not used to diagnose or treat and it is encouraged that clients pair this process with talk therapy. This process can enhance talk therapy as it can help with the development of new skills that increase self expression and communication of emotions and thoughts.
How many sessions do I need and how long are sessions?
Number of sessions needed is up to the client and their healing journey, needs, presentation, and goals. Sessions range from 45-60 minutes, but can be longer if needed. The process begins with an intake, at this time session duration, approach, and frequency will be determined.
