Child and Adolescent Mental Health

Be. makes mental health and healing a priority through engaging your child or adolescent in services that are fit to their unique mental health needs and that are relevant to their past, present, and future.

We will build an individualized treatment approach for your child or adolescent, based on their unique needs, rather than attempting to fit your child to a generic treatment template. Addressing therapy through a person-centered approach allows our therapeutic journey to focus on the strengths that your child brings to session. We will use those strengths to enhance the areas of growth and change he or she identifies.

Many times, life comes at us fast, unfortunate experiences may happen, and sometimes all we need is someone to authentically and nonjudgmentally enter our world to help us get a firmer understanding of who we are and where we want to go. I firmly believe that therapy is a joint relational effort, that together we can help you identify significant areas of your story that need special attention and together we can begin the process of integrating those experiences back in to your life.

Be. // Child and Adolescent Mental Health, LLC approaches the therapeutic process through a trauma-informed and sensitive lens. Yoga, play therapy, pet-assistance, affirmations and meditation, and other treatment modalities and techniques compliment the therapeutic process, as it is recognized that these approaches can be powerful complements to treatment.

Animal Assisted Therapy

Animal-assisted therapy is a therapeutic intervention that incorporates animals into the treatment plan. Animals can participate in session to enhance and complement the benefits of therapy.
“Animal-assisted therapy where a bond is developed with the animal can help people develop a better sense of self-worth and trust, stabilize their emotions, and improve their communication, self-regulation, and socialization skills.”

Yoga

In the therapeutic context yoga poses can be used as an adjunct to treatment to help the body unwind and unlock stagnant energy. Just as the mind needs to process experiences through words, the body needs to process experiences through movement. Yoga poses will be tailored to meet each individual’s mental health and physical needs. Areas of concern are addressed through deep relaxation, meditation, breathing, and postures equipped to unlock healing. Mind, body, spirit are fully integrated in this approach to mental health needs. All individual and group therapeutic yoga sessions will take place in Be.’s peaceful yoga studio and will be tailored to assessed mental health needs. Each session is taught by Carey Sorenson, a licensed psychologist who is also a registered yoga instructor (RYT – 200). The yoga therapy components of her teaching are based on her status as a licensed psychologist, not derived from her status as an RYT with Yoga Alliance.

If your child or adolescent is currently struggling with direct and additive issues related to trauma exposure, academic hardships, behavioral struggles, mood regulation, impulse control, self-regulation, self-concept development, coping skills, interpersonal conflict, and other mental health concerns please contact Carey to determine appropriate treatment options based on individual needs.
